1. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

2. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Much like Jane Eyre, I bought this within the last few months, and it's been chilling on my bookshelf ever since then. Honestly, I've wanted to read this ever since I watched "Easy A" - it plays such a large role in that movie. It has intrigued me since that moment.
3. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
I've read pretty good reviews on this one and I want to see what it's about. It's one of those ones I just want to try.
4. Emma by Jane Austen
Is anyone really surprised that this is here? I read Pride and Prejudice and found it enjoyable (although not as much as so many other people). I would love to read all of her works. So really, when you see I want to read Emma - just lump the rest of her novels in with this one (Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility, etc.).
5. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
I've started this book a few times, only to get derailed within the first few hundred pages. One day I will finish this novel!
6. The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
Another one that I've heard good things about and want to read. This has been on my list since high school, and I've just never gotten around to it.
7. The Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I enjoyed The Great Gatsby and want to try another one of his novels. I've seen mixed reviews on this one - but a goal I have is to be a well-read individuals, so I will definitely at least try this novel.
8. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
Please see a variety of explanations in previous novels listed. I don't have a reason - I just want to read it. Sometimes you don't need a reason, sometimes you just want to read something for the sake of enjoying the literature.
9. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
To me this sounds like an interesting read - and I'll read it someday.
10. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
Much like what I said about Jane Austen's work, I want to read Leo Tolstoy's works. I think it would be interesting and why not try them.
If you couldn't tell, my reasons for wanting to read many of these is simply for the sake of reading them. There's no rhyme or reason as to why I chose the books that I did. One of my life goals is to be a well read human being. In order to accomplish this, I have to read the classics - and this is where I'll start.
What are you favorite classics?
